Sustainable

As a career adviser this runs into my blood - ADVICE. I need to nurture my thought so that the advise given stands to be beneficial and faith up on me sustains...

People who are in search of job, people who want to switch their job or people who want to quit their job, everybody comes for a piece of advice from my end so that they can feel comfortable in taking tough decisions with an ease, to sustain and live life with utmost satisfaction.

While analyzing these personalities, I have reached to a single inference that - every step of our life is thriving for hardship

We wish to change so that we can sustain and can off beat the mounting pressure of competition. We try to build in proficiency by adapting new technology, learning the art of implication and application of new apps and latest features of various gigs and gadgets.

In the midst of these, what I rarely find is peace of mind. The place for humanity and tranquility is nowhere seen. We all are juggling with numerous things. The moment our focus gets shaken, we fall into the pit of dilemma; running short of logical thinking, depressed and traumatized with our own decision.
Sustainability demands for a steady process of growth but not a writ

While working with an organization, do not curtail your growth curve. Set your goals and aim to achieve it which can add more value to the organization, both in person otherwise economically.

Tired, Switch or get FIRED

Working without any growth proves that you are not keen in raising your learning curve.
I have a friend who has joined a well reputed organization after his post graduation at reasonably good pay package. Being the brand, he felt extremely happy, giving jinx to all those unplaced students. Thought that he is truly blessed with great luck! I got placed in one of the so called growing companies with so called good package.
Our struggle for success and development in our career path started with lot many leaps and bounds. Friend of whom I quoted as he got placed at a good position, made him arrogant within our peer group, there was transition in his attitude and transformation in the level of confidence to over-confidence.
Well, after six years, we met each other. The platform was same but the level of learning between us was too wide. He came their to listen to listen to few fast pacing personnel from different industries, handling different verticals. Well, I was one of the speakers.
We felt happy when we met and had exchanged greetings. The joy knew no bound. I introduced him to the other speakers as the best student of my batch and of our institute.
Things went very well, but while retiring my mind questioned, why the good academicians are not the great achievers in the course of life.
One thing that could collate after boggling and brain storming my brain for hours, the moment monotony captivates learning, either intend to bring necessary changes in the process in doing things or do switch to something different, else instead of progressive learning curve, it will be diminishing. No organization wants to have only doer of a job rather they believe to recruit the true performers. And to step up as a performer. you need to change self from time-to-time. Accept the challenges with a belief that it is a new way to learn and create a new path of success.
I realized certain facts:

  1. Package at which you are initially placed matters least.
  2. The way you carry forward your career plays a vital role
  3. Adopt change, be flexible and know when to follow and when to lead
  4. Draw a future plan - ahead
Following these four steps, you can never be tired, will be active and will think of more innovative ideas

Tough to Choose

When I saw this picture posted on Linkedin it straight away drove my thought towards the challenge that is in general faced by the Talent Acquisition Managers. The management wants to hire a very competitive person with good amount of knowledge and experience but at minimal cost.On the flip side Human Capital Management is not only tricky but also risky.
We do find people with different levels of caliber. Some could be good at analytic, some at logical approach and some at communication. To get the blend of all these in one is in itself, a tough task.
Management thinks of reducing the cost, but it should not be done in particular related to person who is really worthy and can change the curve of growth. Efficiency and effectiveness are two strong pillars, when employees are judged and hired after these alchemy test, they intend to add pure benefits to the organization.
Even the task of the Talent Acquisition Manager turns to be comfortable as his crucial decision taken to recruit any one is considered to be beneficial.Hence believe in delivering the best and getting it from right entity than from a cheap and novice personnel

Meeting

In the morning when I woke up, I recalled it was Tuesday, and I do have series of meetings lined up. My Sunday, I invested in finding the details, drafting the rough draft of what to talk and present in these meetings, sending agenda to the concerned people so that they knew in advance, what we were supposedly interact on.
I rushed to my office, to reach little early so that I can keep the things well organized as per my calendar. When I logged into my mail box, there I read the first mail from Mr.A stating his inconvenience to come and meet me. Well, his request to fix up the appointment on some other day, boggled my mind. I did not reply him immediately rather focused my mind to look into it after some time.
The mail was sent, not showing my bitterness but telling him, how important it was for me to meet him. What he has lost by not meeting so that he can get attracted and may ask for appointment from his end.
My second meeting which was scheduled at 10 am went on delaying, as the person with whom I was meeting was stuck into some other one. Well though the thing started bit late but it went on very well, as we both have prepared duly on the discussion point. Reaching to consensus was not a problem.
My final meeting which was planned post lunch was really an interesting one. The appointed person has sent his representative to discuss the agenda, which I had already detailed through a telephonic call. The person who has come to meet was completely blank. He was unaware of the background up on which our discussion was planned on. I had to detail him and then when he had enough of knowledge, his ultimate statement left me in fumes...
Statement: Sir, these things are not handled by me. Even If I have come to understand now, the decision would be taken by the person who had sent me here to interact with you. So, It is advisable if you can present all the details to the same person, rather involving any one.
Well, in corporate the meaning of meeting is changing. People come either to present their critical point of view which generally acts as a barrier and will not help you to proceed or may be, they are completely in ignorance. When the agenda is sent, they hardly go through the details and prepare themselves.
In these circumstances, I doubt the significance of meeting...
Let us value time and understand the significance of meeting and develop the proper skills required to attend or being the part of it.

Unlock your Potential

It was a pleasant evening. It was the day full of fun, watching the ramp show organized by one of the colleges in Delhi. There were few students who have recently joined corporate. They were more keen to share about their work pressure, about their boss, their performance, rewards that they have received and so many things. Few who were unplaced, though had a smile on their face, still felt depressed and dejected at their poor performance.

Instead of feeling pity, what I firmly believe is, the students who were still in search of job have never tried to unlock their true potential.

As you are unique and you are different from others, comparing your personality and efficiency with others, should be considered as sheer foolishness. It won't make an iota difference for you.

What these students were not focusing was, to identify their key skills and present the same to the recruiter with passion. It is the right and go-get attitude which brings in difference in life.

When I analyzed, I reached to the conclusion that the teaching and learning methodology is so outdated that you hardly realize your proficiency and area of key interest. There is no such practice applied, to know the latent potentiality of a person.

Though there are many number of assessment techniques, but this is never implemented in schools at the right age, the actual time-period during which the child can adopt and start planning for his future. On the contrary they start too late when it is too difficult to handle the situation.

When the process of regular academics is on the verge of ending, then the person is assessed. The qualities remain untouched or is left in latent form. There is no way left to unlock the potential that you are blessed with.

Back Out

Scared...Can't face audience...Feeling nervous...I believe...I should back out.
Back out because of the fear factor that others may insult me. Certainly the positive note never concord with the thought that why should I bother about others? Why on this earth, should I think of others?
The moment the triggers such an idea, the process of growth ventures and it raises in leaps and bounds; further to improve follow these five steps:
  • Identify your strengths and weaknesses
  • Draft a strategy to validate your strengths and state the action taken to overcome your weaknesses
  • Work on your socializing group. Weed out those friends who spread negativism
  • Bring clarity in your thoughts and try to bring it in action
  • Be what you are, the moment you attempt to behave like others, you kill your self identity
When these protocols are followed, it boosts your confidence; instead of shuddering, you stand still with courage and commitment

Examination

The sensation of examination is something which shows the level of goose bear that you have. It is the main procedure of elimination. Process through which your success and failure gets rated. People have their expectation upon your performance. Few may evaluate their performance with your end results.
When I see students preparing for their exams, I certainly doubt if they are pretty aware of the facts of taking any examination. Well, examination though validated with the marks scored, still it has a lot to do with input gained, knowledge processed and the art of presenting the gained information. The moment it is considered as a challenge of scoring, you may find student mugging up things, they may read but not learn the concept.
What I feel is, the pattern of conducting examination need a drastic change. Based on the learning style, even final evaluation should take place in unique manner. The examiner should bear in mind that while drafting the paper he should analyze the learning style of each student, then reach to consensus within his mind to reach to an alignment through which he can anticipate the level of performance of each student who would take the examination.
Similarly, even the one who is giving the examination should know his mentor. His own aspirations and drawbacks which are to be balanced to sum up and reach to desirable conclusion.
Examination should not be time killing process, nor a tactic applied to demean the other person. It should be a fair method to check your SANKALP i.e. skills, attitude & knowledge aligned to learning performance.

Not a Cake Walk

A student of mine, with decent personality and good communication skills was very confident that he could get through any interview easily, as he thought if he is verbose, for sure he can convince others. Lo! He did not give any second thought to interview preparedness. The moment I used to ask him to attend my sessions on interview preparedness, his only response was - Ma'am, I don't think I will be in need of it.

Well, the final day approached. It was well reputed company. My champ was confident that he will be managing things as per his aspirations and will be able to clear the interview. For him...It was a damn easy task.

After his interview, with dejection, he reached to my cabin and said that he could not frame things appropriately. He knew the answers yet his tongue was tight at that moment and felt nervousness creeping in his blood, which made him uncomfortable. He could not accept the fact that his confidence got shattered and he could not present his skills efficiently.

The problem with him and in general is, when we talk about interview preparation, we start talking only about the domain knowledge. It has many things to discuss apart from your academics. How well you have studied about the organization, whether you are aware with your profile and its basic requirements, also about the competitors. Did you analyze your answers. The number of rehearsals that you took before sitting for the final meeting.

Well, there is a lot to be done. Know yourself very well. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Try to portray a proper story line to present your skill sets with suitable example. Also know the organization for which you are appearing for. The skill set required by the job and how you can connect the same with your skill set and personality.

Anyways you need to prepare from the beginning to the end, till the time you are not placed and receive the offer letter from the company. Your preparation will make challenges a cake walk.

Shades of Life

The life that we are living is certainly unpredictable. Every day teaches us something new. Hardly you may meet your expectations and gain the consensus of everybody whom you have consulted and had taken advise on some particular piece of information.
The shades that we view are so different from each other that it leaves our mental state in ambiguity. Though the experienced and successful person keep quoting about their journey and do try to motivate others by standing beside as the path bearer, but it would be next to impossible to apply the same rule of success and overwhelm with the joy of achievement.
Your perception, conviction in your thought and journey of your life all may bring in variations - in your ideas and would lead you on to an unseen path.
You grow and prosper, but that may not sustain for a long period of time lest you realize that you need to change the plan of action and rethink about your plans and policies so that you can taste the sweet of success time and again.
To claim the fame you will have to strive hard. You may have to put your best to overcome the hurdles and reach to the winning point. Even with the passage of time, your competitors tend to learn your art and they throw tough challenge which you might not have ever expected. Thus forcing you to view some different shade of life.
Estimation, expectation and experience when these three runs through your plan, you will feel immense energy which will rush into your adrenaline from within. This positive force will encourage you to grab more knowledge and shun your apprehension.
The shades are so unique that even when you are completely immersed into it, still you may feel that your life is standing still like a rock and is colorless.
Try to explore more through bringing in positive approach and by exploring certain new things that can generate the best shade of your life, leading joy and happiness

Difficult to Teach

Today when I was observing some other faculty teaching in her classroom, I realized how important it is for the faculty to be learned and be updated. The classroom was dry. Many of the students were keen to know the time that was left, so that they can move out. Few were pretentious. Thanks to mobile and its apps. Few could get rid of the boredom because of this wonderful gadget.
I felt that just good powerpoint presentation should never be considered as good aid. You need to be commendable with your knowledge and should know the art of articulating right words. Teaching aids should involve students. The teaching should be live, with better involvement of the student. Gone are the days when students used to learn things by just passive listening. The demand is, students need to become an active participant.
When they are involved, the learning outcome is positive and the objective set behind the curriculum is duly achieved. Trainers conducting teaching and training should design their module in such a manner which can be creative, can add more value for the participants and encourage all to express their learning outcome through some activity.
