Not a Cake Walk

A student of mine, with decent personality and good communication skills was very confident that he could get through any interview easily, as he thought if he is verbose, for sure he can convince others. Lo! He did not give any second thought to interview preparedness. The moment I used to ask him to attend my sessions on interview preparedness, his only response was - Ma'am, I don't think I will be in need of it.

Well, the final day approached. It was well reputed company. My champ was confident that he will be managing things as per his aspirations and will be able to clear the interview. For him...It was a damn easy task.

After his interview, with dejection, he reached to my cabin and said that he could not frame things appropriately. He knew the answers yet his tongue was tight at that moment and felt nervousness creeping in his blood, which made him uncomfortable. He could not accept the fact that his confidence got shattered and he could not present his skills efficiently.

The problem with him and in general is, when we talk about interview preparation, we start talking only about the domain knowledge. It has many things to discuss apart from your academics. How well you have studied about the organization, whether you are aware with your profile and its basic requirements, also about the competitors. Did you analyze your answers. The number of rehearsals that you took before sitting for the final meeting.

Well, there is a lot to be done. Know yourself very well. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Try to portray a proper story line to present your skill sets with suitable example. Also know the organization for which you are appearing for. The skill set required by the job and how you can connect the same with your skill set and personality.

Anyways you need to prepare from the beginning to the end, till the time you are not placed and receive the offer letter from the company. Your preparation will make challenges a cake walk.
